You should know that a regular maintenance is required for air conditioner’s filter, coils and its fins. This allows the air conditioner to function effectively. In case you neglect this aspect, your air conditioner will lose its potencies through years and will use much more energy than needed. If you offer regular and proper air conditioning maintenance then you can keep the machine in a sound working condition for a long time.

Maintaining Different Parts
You need to take care of its parts separately to maintain its health.
#1. Air conditioning filters: You should change or clean regularly the clogged or dirty filters of your air conditioner. The dirty filters block the normal air from flowing which ultimately decreases the efficiency of your machine. If the normal air flow is blocked then the air will naturally bring forth dirt and pollution in the room which is harmful to human health.
#2. Air conditioner coils: The evaporator coil and the condenser coils collect dirt and dust. If you don’t have clean filters then it will also affect your coils by soiling it quickly. The dirt clogging it will eventually reduce its ability to absorb heat. That is why, cleaning the coil for air conditioning maintenance is important.
#3. Cleaning Coil Fins: Coil fins of the evaporator and condenser coils bent easily which blocks natural air flow. There is a tool called fin comb which helps in combing the fins in its original place.
#4. Condensate Drains: In this case, there is a stiff wire found to be occasionally passed through the drain channels. In this way, the drain channels are clogged which will then hamper in reducing the humidity from the room ultimately causing excess moisture.
Required Tools for Air Conditioning Maintenance
In case you are trying to do it all by yourself you will need few tools for this project.
- 4-in-1 screwdriver
- Rubber gloves
- Shop vacuum
- Your garden hoses
- An ordinary dinner knifes
- Electric motor oil etc.
Steps Involved in The Process
Step 1: You will need to shut off the power first before beginning this process. In the case of exterior condenser or compressor, you can look for the shut-off box near the unit and in case of indoor air conditioners turn off the power at the breaker box.
Step 2: Remove the fan cage on the exterior condenser using a screwdriver. After that, you will need to lift the fan cage and clean leaves or any type of debris from the interior by hand or with a wet or dry vacuum.
Step 3: Now you will need to use a garden hose for spraying through the fins and clean every bit of dirt and debris in between them. It is advised to use the sprays available in the market to clean the dirty fins. It is best not to use a pressure washer because it might harm the fins.
Step 4: Reduction in air flow is possible through bent fins. That is the reason why you need to straighten the fins by using a butter knife or the fin-combing tools.
Step 5: Next, in the air conditioning maintenance, you will have to move further inside. In the inside blower, you can find evaporator coil door. After opening it, you can make use of a soft brush for cleaning dust from it and spray the coil cleaner that is available in the market.
Step 6: The filter located in the HVAC system must be changed at least twice every year. It is best to change them before the beginning of summer and again at the beginning of winter.
It is best to pay attention to the condition of your air conditioner. If you find any problem it is best to solve it as soon as possible. Keeping it healthy is possible with regular air conditioning maintenance twice every year.
