  • Cleaning Regularly: it is of utmost importance to clean awnings regularly to avoid built up dirt.  If an awning is not cleaned for a long time it will develop stains as well as rust. The accumulation of dust and debris can damage the awning fabric. You may hire professional cleaners to do the job for you, but it can also be done a layman with ease. All you will need is a bristle broom that is soft and clean soapy water that suits the material of the awning.
  • No Charcoal Grilling: you should not grill charcoal under an extended awning. You might find it quite nice and relaxing, but the awning bears the brunt by getting stained. Especially, if you have state-of-the-art retractable awnings then it would make you hop mad as they are not easy to clean thus you will need professional help for this.
  • Removing Leaves and Twigs: if you live in a windy area then you will be sure to get a ton of leaves and twigs on your awning. Especially, hanging twigs and leaves can destroy the awning’s structure which you cannot let happen. You might have to use strong brushes as well as reliable detergents to take off the stains of the leaves from the awning.
  • Small Tears: due to a lot of factors, including the material of your awning, there may be small tears appearing on the surface. Attend to them immediately. If you do not do so, these small tears will develop into a large one and maybe completely damage retractable awnings. Always inspect your awning for small tears, because a stitch in time saves nine.
  • Do Not Drag: if you are the owner of a retractable awning you need to ensure that it does not get scratched when you switch it on and off. For example, an abrasive surface will quickly wear away the awning material. Consider hiring a professional while setting up your retractable awnings.  Do not make it lean on rough surfaces. • Strong Winds: a retractable awning is designed to protect a person from the sun’s heat and wind speeds up to 20mph. your awning will not be able to withstand hail, strong winds or snow and rain. Do not use awnings in such conditions. Do not jam the front bar against the rolled fabric because the fabric has to roll above the roller tube but not from underneath. Lubrication is also a good way to avoid jamming. It actually increases the lifespan of your awning and also makes sure that regular maintenance costs less.
  • Proper Storage: storing the awning is a very important thing to do. Clean it thoroughly; dry it in the sun, and remove any signs of dirt, debris or mildew, and store it in the room which is well ventilated. Avoid moisture at all costs, because that encourages rusting.
You will only get the best from your awning if you take care of it properly and make sure that it is not mishandled. This way, you will get the best from your retractable awning down the years.
