At every site, there must be an emergency service because site work can be risky. The emergency Response team is in charge of a particular site's security, and they provide first aid security and medical facilities to the victims or injured. While this team is divided into various levels according to their specializations, they are all bound to work for the security and safety of the people of the particular site and are bestowed with a set of roles and responsibilities.

First Person on Site:

The team has members who are the first person on site, and they are responsible for primary peace and safety on a given site. They are the first to take immediate action and are an integral part of the team. The team proceeds according to the information provided to them. Their responsibilities include-

  • Primary security
  • Notify the security personnel about any suspicious incidents or actions.
  • Initiating evacuation and informing personnel in charge in case of emergency response needed.

Incident Commanders:

They are the decision-makers of the body. They give instructions for the proceedings, and accordingly, the team operates. They have the right to evaluate the situation and call for action accordingly. Their responsibilities include-

  • Activate the team for further actions
  • Evaluate the severity of the situation
  • Ask for additional help
  • Report to the company superiors
  • Stay in touch with the team and direct them for the actions
  • Examine the need for evacuation of an area

Medical Response Team:

The medical response team provides first aid medical facilities to the victims and injured. They are equipped with all necessary medical kits and services needed in the area. They are an important part of the emergency response team.  Their responsibilities include-

  • Provision of medical facilities.
  • Setting up first aid kits and fire extinguishers
  • Training and coordinating training for first aid.
  • Reporting about an incident’s medical situation
  • Provide medical assistance as and when required
  • Remain in charge of the medical facilities until professional help arrives

Skills and priorities of emergency response team:

The emergency response team is responsible for all the tactical level management. The size of the team can vary according to the intensity of the situation, and they are trained in all the required areas of first aid and fire extinguishing services. They work with a set of priorities and are responsible for the work in the field.

1. Evaluation and updates of the scene:

 The team is completely responsible for security. Thus in case of any suspicious or illegal activities, they have to maintain a record of the evaluation and the update considering the situation. They should be in touch with the professionals and must keep them updated about all activities on the ground. Reports are published periodically, and in case of their failure, they are answerable to the higher authorities.

2. Effective communication:

This is a skill an emergency response team member must develop. They must be able to communicate clearly with the appropriate use of terms. They must have good hearing and controlling abilities. They are first-hand responsible for a crowd, and they must be able to manage it at all costs. In case of misunderstanding, false information can be spread around.

3. Decision making:

An officer at any level must be able to make an informed decision, and with the help of the subordinates, they must be able to execute the decision.

The officer must know when to evacuate a place and when to carry out an operation undercover. Decision-making is a skill they must develop at all costs. Quick, firm, and good decisions must be made in a limited period which is a major challenge their duty possesses.

4. Supervisory and Tactical level management:

The team is not only responsible for the supervision of the area but also the tactical level management of the scene and the incidents.

They must be well versed with the locations and routes around the place. Communication and operations must be carried out smoothly with the help of coordination and team support.
