Various Types And Function Of Hot Water Systems

4:28 AM

Let’s first understand the basic function of what exactly a heating system does. Water which has supplying temperature lower than 250°F (121°C) is used as a medium to transmit heat to a heat-distributing means from the central boiler with the help of piping system. The hot water system can be installed as a boiler and an interconnected network of pipes that circulate the amount of water and distribute maximum heat to all your rooms.

How does it work?

  • The most common set up for small installations are radiation units that are connected around a loop of a single pipe system.
  • In a two-pipe system, the flow and return mains consists of separate radiation units. These pipes may run parallel or on a reverse return loop and has no boundary on the size of the system.
  • Depending on the type of system that has been used, the mode of circulation may be either through gravity or with the help of a pump.

4 main Types of hot water systems

The following are the most common types of hot water systems that are used widely

  • Thermal store: The basic source of heat is either by a normal gas boiler or on a low cost night-rate immersion heater. These hot water systems differ from normal hot water cylinders in that the water that it contains stays in the tank wherein a hot water cylinder will feed it to the hot taps immediately. The water-filled central heating radiators and main pressure hot tap water mainly gets the water that has been permanently stored in the thermal store.
  • Combi boiler: This type of hot water system is a central heating boiler which directly heats the domestic tap as it flows through the boiler. The complex internal arrangement allows this process to happen instantly. This one single appliance has the functions of any other ordinary boiler. The major function of this is that it heats the house through radiators and also at the same time gives hot water to the taps by sending fresh water through the boiler and heating it directly on its way. This type of water system helps you get rid of airing cupboard and tanks and helps you recover the space.
  • Open-vented hot water cylinder: This is one of the most frequently used form of hot water systems. This is a trouble-free way to store hot water which is heated through a central heating boiler or by an electric immersion heater. The immersion heater backups and sends hot water in case the central heating boiler has an error or breakdown.
  • Main pressure unvented hot water cylinder: They run with the help of the main pressure and not from the tank. Everything works brilliantly, be it the showers or the taps. One of the main drawback is that this type of hot water system is expensive compared to the others and need trained specialists to install them and need regular service once in a while.

One of the main advantages of these systems is that they adapt to the requirements which are being forced by the weather conditions. It also saves fuel. It depends where the radiation units are. It may be placed below or just above the heaters, and the pipe may be laid in any particular direction that can make sure air is eliminated. The central heating may use high temperature and pressure as well as low temperature and cooling systems. It is true that with the best forms of hot water systems, the surrounding level of pollution is reduced drastically, as these systems do not have any detrimental effect on the environment.
