How to Choose Right Kind of Stainless Steel Angles with High Grades?

2:10 AM

When you are planning to build an out of doors structure, that has to withstand the brunt of the nature, then are few things you need to keep in mind, to ensure durability and strength. Any structure that will have to face rain or salt water, in the form of storage tank or any other medium, will need proper protection against these elements. Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t know about these protections, and how to install them for the structure they are building.

One of the things that they can do use stainless steel angles, for all the bents and joints. It is a hot rolled angle that comes in unequal and equal leg lengths, so you can use the leg length type, best suited for your structure. These stainless steel angles not only provide additional strength to the structure, but also give you a great protection against the elements, which is essential to prevent it from corrosion. That is why they are considered the best option for structures that require strength and excellent resistance from elements while still maintaining good workability.

These angle normally comes in a dull gray color with a mill finishing, that makes it ideal or usable for any and every kind of a fabrication project, be it a small shed or some outdoor furniture, that may require some strength, or as they use to say, some solid steel. In fact, given the properties this alloy has, it is also considered ideal for a fabrication projects, that might have some exposure to acidic or chemical environments. Though, you need to remember that prolonged exposure, could damage even these strong alloy metal lengths.
Stainless Steel Angles
These stainless steel angles essential for the strength of your structures, generally come in two grades. They are available in 304 / 304L and 316 / 316L grade class that can normally cover the all your structural needs.

Different Grades for Stainless Steel Angles

  • 304 / 304L: They are the most used type of angles; they are also the most versatile. As per the experts, these angles offer high strength and very good resistance against temperature and corrosion, which is the biggest enemy of any structure. They are also ideal for smooth surfaces, which may require or have to face repeated sterilization and sanitizing. Though, one of its best properties is the ease with which it can be machined and stamped. In fact, welding it to exact tolerances is also quite easy, if you have a little training or experience. This kind of grade is generally considered high performance material that is available at a low cost. Some of the structures that this grade is commonly used to build are support for tanks, for water or chemicals, different kinds of enclosures. They can also be used for small extensions like animal sheds or a simple addition to your backyard. They are also ideal for cabinets and bulkheads that are commonly used in garages and sheds.
  • 316 / 316L: This grade of stainless steel angles contains a much higher level of molybdenum and nickel, as compared to 304 grades. This additional elemental support gives it a much improved resistance against corrosion to fight off more aggressive environments that structures may have to withstand. Some of the examples, where these alloys can be useful are chloride containing water, or any other liquid form with chloride, acidic chemical mixes like sulfuric acid or its general compounds. And the most common will be the salt water.
However, the best part about these alloys is that they can maintain the high strength and toughness with similar workability, that the 304 grade alloys offer.
